Turn that Frown Upside Down

So here we are 3 months into the New Year! Has it been all that you had hoped it would be? Have you begun accomplishing some of those goals and dreams in 2008? Are you living the life that you have always wished for? Are you skinnier and healthier than you were in 2007? Are you working at THE job and making an awesome salary? It is easy to get in to a rut in your workout routine and in your everyday life. Well, don't delay! Most of the battle is in your head! The life you have always wanted is within your reach and it is all about your attitude.

Make 2008 your year of success. Do you want to be the boss or meet your soul mate? How about lose 10 pounds or gain 10 in muscle? The core of a goal must first start with a positive and I-can-do attitude followed up by a list of priorities and the self-confidence to achieve whatever your heart can dream up.

Below you will find the layout for the first 4 things to evaluate on your road to accomplishing your biggest dreams.

Well, in order to get what you want, you have to know what you want. Write down your dreams and goals. All of them. What do you want to do this year? And what about the next 5 years? If you are dissatisfied with any part of your life, write down all of the pros and cons of that particular subject. Try to look for patterns. Perhaps the things you dislike about your job are things that go against the “flow” of your dreams and goals. Think about how you can change that. Is there a way in your current job or would it require a job change? If you feel you must change jobs, make a list of all the occupations that might be in alignment with your life goals.

Now take it a step further and imagine what would you would do, where you would live, and who you would be if failure was never an option. When you eliminate fear, you can see all the possibilities of who you could possibly become. If you envision yourself as Picasso, maybe you can change your habits to include more artistic flair. Take a painting class or study web design so you can consider a more creative career. If you love music, learn to play an instrument or get a job with a record company.

Pursue the passion. I am sure you have heard it a million times, but what does it really mean? Inside each human being is a true longing for something greater. You will see in the media, there are a few people that seem at peace because they are living there greatest calling. To me, Oprah is the most shining example of this. She is constantly pushing herself to live her best life and to make the biggest impact she can on the world. I know that for some of us, we might not have the desire to achieve something of this magnitude, but it is important to really name your yearning. On many lists, you will find that people want to be happy, and make a difference in the world, whether that be to one person or one million people. Define what happiness means to you. List how you might enjoy making a difference in the world. Some starting points are to join Habitat for Humanity, become a Big Brother or Big Sister, or even drag a friend to the gym to increase his/her knowledge of health.

Don’t pigeon-hole yourself. Don’t let your job title define you. Remember, there are many facets to you. You are not just mother or teacher or fire-fighter. Remember that you are an exciting and complex person, worthy of interest. You like Van Gogh and playing musical chairs and the way that blacktop pavement smells when it first begins to rain. You are not just one thing. Be you. All of you. Don’t be afraid (and don’t forget) to explore all of the different parts of you. That is part of being a well-nourished and well-rounded individual.
