Reasons Why You Are A Couch Potato
Working out regularly is great, that's why you work out with OC's Best Personal Trainer. Working out lowers your risks for heart attacks, high blood pressure, diabetes and certain cancers. It also helps with weight control, obviously, as well as battling depression symptoms and can even relieve pain associated with arthritis. It saves you money by cutting down on visits to the doctor and pricey medications. But apparently all those benefits are just not enough to get some people off the couch and into their local Fitness Center. More than half of the population don't exercise enough, and a quarter of the population does not do anything active in their free time. These people are called Couch Potatoes.
The most common excuse given is a lack of time for the gym. Working long hours, coming home to demanding children or spouses, having a million errands to run on the way home all get in the way of making time to work out. And by the end of the day, the need for 6-8 hours of sleep can override the desire to exercise. Carving out some time in your schedule is imperative to your health. You will be able to better tackle all the curve balls that life throws at you if you are fit and energized. Take the family on a walk or a bike ride, and schedule your appointment with your Personal Trainer early in the morning so that you still have time to work, get to the grocery store, make dinner, etc.
Some studies have shown that women on the whole tend to work out less than their male counterparts. Some women felt the pressure of needing to take care of everyone else first. leaving no time to care for themselves. Guilt can heap on if you feel that you are neglecting your family's needs while you are sweating it out at the gym. Reshape that way of thinking. The best thing you can do for your family is to take care of yourself and set a good example for your spouse and children by being a fit and happy individual.
Some people are so intimidated by the thought of walking into a gym and having to figure out how to use all of the complicated equipment. Here comes your Personal Trainer. Your trainer is there to help you! Your trainer will put you on the right machines, set to the right weights, and will make sure you have proper form and will not hurt yourself. Your trainer is not going to let you hop on the Back Extension and watch you try to do crunches on it! I think that might be impossible anyway. The point is that the commitment you have made to the trainer (ie. paying your monthly dues) gets you a commitment in return. Your trainer is there to put you on the right machines, at the right weight setting, and show you how to use them properly.
Safety is a roadblock for some. Walking alone at night is not the best idea. So, get around that mby making your husband join you for a 45 minute walk. Hit Blockbuster on the way back and grab a flick to bribe him along. Or arrange a group of girlfriends to get together once or twice a week to walk in a pack. If you live in a tough neighborhood, drive out to the beach and walk on the beach path…there are always a lot of people around. Or, drive to the gym and use the cardio machines. You are entitled to hit the gym, even if you don't have a scheduled appointment with your trainer, at any time.
If you just hate the idea of working out in general, make an appointment with your qualified personal trainer to talk out some of your issues and have them come up with a personalized plan for you. Your brain can work against you, and if you get a professional to work on helping you get past whatever your problem is, you can move forward and get into shape!
