Wedding Dress or Wedding Cake?

I am getting married in 5 months, and of course I have been putting down deposits for all kinds of things, from the photographer to catering. I bought my dress 2 months ago. When I bought my dress, I fit the sample size almost perfectly, and they took my measurements and had me order that same size. I went back in to look at Bridesmaids dresses with some of the girls and tried the sample dress on for them, and the salesgirl that laced up the back of it for me told me "when you actually order the dress you should order it a size smaller". Yay for being a size smaller than I thought, but Boo for them making me order it in the size I came up as on their sizing chart, basically so that they can gouge me for alterations later. Not to mention that I plan on losing at least 15 more pounds, so we'll see what happens when it gets closer to the wedding day.

On top of this, I have been looking for a wedding cake. A friend that is getting started with Cake classes offered to do it at first, but we've since changed our minds since I have changed the game plan on her (type of cake, size, etc.). So, I am now looking for a cake froma bakery. And, I am sickened by the experience! Not only do I not even like cake, but it goes against everything that I am about. I do not have a sweet tooth, I don't like cake, I don't ever eat a piece of wedding cake at any wedding I attend. And, to top it all off, the cake quotes I am getting add up to be more than the cost of my wedding dress!

I picked out a stylish and elegant dress, and that type of dress thankfully costs less…no overdone beads, no lace overlays, no nonsense. My clean-lined and fabulous dress was $499 and they were running a special and I got $50 off. And the cake pricing I am getting is averaging $6 a slice. Multiply that by 140 guests, and you get $840. Plus, I have to pay $2 per guest to have the caterers cut and serve the cake, an additional $280. That is a grand total of $1120. My dress and veil plus tax was $506. Less than half. And I won't be eating even one slice!

So the question I have been asking myself is this: Wedding Dress or Wedding Cake? I absolutely love my dress. I don't like cake. I can't believe that the price of a cake that I don't even care about whatsoever is more than double the price of my dress! The dress that I have been working so hard to look amazing in. The dress that will make my Personal Trainer proud. I am not one of those girls that joined the gym after I got engaged so that I could lose weight for the wedding, I have been working out with Positively Fit for almost 2 years. But I have kicked it into high gear for the wedding, of course. This fabulous dress…versus the sugary, carbohydrate filled cake that I don't even want. The tyoe of food that would most definitely not make my trainer proud. Of course it is a special occasion, yada yada yada. But I don't eat cake!

So, can I have my guests watch my fiancee and I cut a slice of whole wheat pizza topped with Feta and Veggies? Or how about we cut a wedge of a lowfat Turkey Sandwich, hold the mayo? Yeah, I didn't think so.

This is ridiculous.
