The hardest part of losing weight isn’t eating right and exercising. Really, anyone can do that. The hardest part is getting motivated enough to exercise and eat right. Here’s a few powerful tips that will help you get your mind the right place to lose fat, build muscle, and lead a healthy lifestyle.
1. Realize that there is no quick fix
Losing fat and getting fit is a long journey, and you should be prepared for that. Despite what some huckster supplement salesman or blaring magazine title might have you believe, there is really no effortless, fast, and easy way to shed a lot of fat. There are things you can do make things easier and speed up the process, certainly, but there is no magic exercise or super pill that will do all the work for you.
2. Get Educated on the Psychology of Motivation
Really spend time thinking about what gets you fired up and why you are pursuing the healthy lifestyle. Specifically, you shouldn’t just have a very general goal like “lose weight” or “get healthy.” You should have a goal weight, or perhaps even a goal pair of “skinny jeans.” Having a definite goal can imbue you with a whole new sense of purpose every time you workout, and it helps keep you excited as you inch ever closer to your fitness dreams.
3. Take a Step Back From Your Actions
With everything you do, you need to ask more questions. How will this affect my training routine? How will this affect my diet? How can I find an adequate amount of time to exercise? Sometimes people eat a lot of bad food without realizing it or “cheat” on their last few sets of weight training. Taking a hard look at how you approach fitness will help you do it right.
4. Get a Training Partner
If you ever have difficulty firing yourself up about exercise, you are sure to get motivated with someone else supporting you. It can be easy to blow off a workout when you are the only one who is affected. When one of your friends is counting on you to get to the gym on time, however, it’s a whole different story. And once you get started training, they can make sure that you work out with proper technique, don’t skip sets, and find the energy to really plow through your workout.
5. Problem Solve
If you hit up against a brick wall in your diet or training, don’t think that it is the end of the world. Treat it like the challenge it is. Identify the problem that is causing this hang up and try to think up as many ways as you can to get over it. Now identify the best of those ideas and implement it right away. Getting fit isn’t really about your body. It’s about your mind and critical thinking skills. The smarter you train and eat, the more successful you will be in your fitness plan.
