Ask any personal trainer: fitness program success is determined in one's attitude, not the gym. Being fit, more than anything, is a choice. Actually, it's one big choice that leads to a lot of little choices. Once you choose to make fitness a priority, it should lead to a choice to snack on carrot sticks instead of potato chips. So really, before you educate yourself on proper squat technique or the most efficient cardio exercises, you need to make sure you are motivated enough to totally embrace a fit and healthy lifestyle.

They should be something lose "lose twenty pounds" or "have good tone in my arms and legs." But whatever it is you decide, it has to be important enough to you to put work into.

It also helps to understand that the decision to get fit will have far reaching effects on your energy levels, your confidence, your social and romantic life, and even your job. You will become a smarter, better, and probably even happier person than if you choose to stay sedentary.

Now, a personal trainer can be a big help in getting you motivated, but it's just that: help. They can't make embracing a fit and healthy lifestyle important to you, as much as they certainly would like to. Ultimately, the decision is up to you.
