Fitness Mindset with William Tiller from "What The Bleep Do we Know?"

I recently had a chance to interview Stanford Professor William Tiller for an upcoming book of mine. William is a professor, scientist and Quantum Physicist and was featured in the hit film "What The Bleep Do We Know?"

William is one of the smartest people I have ever talked to in my life. I grilled him for over a half hour on just exactly how to use our mind to get what we want out of life - whether that be success, the perfect body, peace of mind, health, happiness…whatever

When I asked William just how important our intentions are here's what he told me.

"What we have succeeded to doing in our research is we have developed a procedure, a process, whereby we can implant an intention (specific intention) into a simple electronic devise from a deep meditative state. So we’re doing it from a state at the mind level, at the spirit level, and the emotion level, and giving it a lot of emotion is very important in the imprint that you put in the device. And we then ship that devise, maybe by FedEx, perhaps a couple of thousand miles to a laboratory that we’ve had set up, and put it in the room and just turn it on.

I put in - and we have equipment set up there to make particular measurement of a material property, whether we’re talking about an intention which increases the pH of purified water by a factor of one pH unit, which is a factor of ten in fivers to nine concentration [ph]; or just an equilibrium with air, no chemical addition. Or we do the same with the same water, but lower the water by one full pH unit. A third experiment is increase the therm-dynamic activity of a specific liver enzyme called alkaline phosphatase.

So we’ve moved from inorganic material to an organic material. The last experiment we did was with fruit flies, a living system, to increase the energy storage molecule ATP, that with its chemical precursor APP and thus make the larva more fit and have a shorter larval development time to be adult fly stage. In all these cases we were robustly successful. In the fruit fly case we reduced the larval development time to the adult stage by about 25 percent, and appeared to be producing some genetic change. So, we are now studying that genetic effect carry over.

So, in answer then to your question, how significant is it? Intention is crucial in everything you do. Every act of your life is an act of intention. And you can make it weak by not putting any oomph into it. An example there would be like having a Xerox machine, which operates without toner - if you don’t put any energy into it. So, in terms of manifesting things in life, you need to drive your intention with emotional content so that you put toner in your biological machine, so that the output performance steps up magnificently."

I then asked William "How does our inner state of being affect our outer experience of life?" and here's what he said:

"One to one ratio. What you see on the outside of you is the collective materialization of all of us. We are continuously creating our future, and if you want to feel good or bad about yourself, just look outside and see what the world’s doing; that tells us where we are. And to make it better, really significantly better, the only thing you can do is to change yourself to become more aware, to become more inner-self managed. When you’re inner-self managed you are more purposeful, you have greater focus of your energy.

Let me give you an example. If I look at a typical light bulb - like these 60 watts, 100 watts, say - it gives a bit of light, but not a lot of light. And the reason it doesn’t give a lot is because of what’s called destructive interference; that is, the photons that come out of that light bulb are canceling each other to a high degree. So if you could somehow use your inner abilities to orchestrate the motion of those photons out of a light bulb so that they basically rode on each other’s back as if they were coherent with each other, then what we would have called before this 100 watt light bulb now produces an energy intensity the order of 100 times the surface of the sun. That’s what can happen by becoming internally coherent, and thus really affect your environment."

Next I asked William "How can we improve our inner state of being?"

"William said "We improve it - the single most important way is to become a very good meditator; to work on it, practice, practice, practice. And along the same path, you can look at Qigong, you can look yoga techniques, you can look at Sufism, there are a variety of procedures that function in our society - around the world - that are prefect tools for individuals to transform themselves from where they are to something dramatically better. And that’s what’s needed, especially at this time."
