About Dana Point
Called the “most romantic spot on the California coast” by it’s namesake Richard Henry Dana, Jr., Dana Point was once named the Capistrano Bay, and has since been re-named Dana Point.  The city was incorporated in 1989 and is home to approximately 35,000 residents.  Dana Point consists of about 7 miles of bluffs and rolling hills along the coastline, overlooking Dana Point Harbor, which is one of the biggest man-made alterations to the California Coastline.  The Dana Point Harbor is the gateway to Doheny State Park, one of the most famous beaches in the world.  The Beach Boys sing about Doheny in a few of their songs.  Dana Point is about halfway between San Diego and Los Angeles, and has slips and moorings for about 2,500 boats.  The city attracts thousands of visitors each year for shopping, sportfishing, parasailing, walking bicycling and more.  The city hosts an annual Turkey Trot 5/10K race every Thanksgiving.
